TPS Alliance Responds to TPS Extension for Venezuela
(Los Angeles) In response to the latest news in relation to the Biden administration’s intent to authorize another 18 month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuela, Veronica Lagunas released the following statement on behalf of the National TPS Alliance:
“We welcome the Biden administration’s use of the TPS statute to provide immediate relief for those who need it, and we expect President Biden to use the power of his office to confer similar protections for Central Americans without further delay. Relatedly, the Biden administration must make clear why it opted not to re-designate TPS to include recent arrivals from Venezuela. We call upon the administration to be transparent in its application of TPS; and again, we reiterate our demand that the statute be applied equally and not used to discriminate against people who come from places that Trump deemed to be ‘sh*thole countries.”
-Veronica Lagunas, TPS Holder, Executive Committee member of the National TPS Alliance
