NTPSA Stands in Solidarity with the Venezuelan Community as DHS Announces Termination of TPS Protections
Nationwide—Yesterday, the Trump Administration announced it would terminate TPS for Venezuelans who were granted protections in 2023. This decision comes just days after the Department of Homeland Security revoked the Biden Administration’s decision to extend TPS for 600,000 Venezuelans in the final days of his term.
This termination affects Venezuelans who were granted TPS in 2023 and now is set to terminate in 60 days potentially on April 6. This termination announcement does not apply to Venezuelans granted TPS in September 2021, who currently have protections until September 10, 2025.
In Response Members of the National TPS Alliance Issued the Following Statements:
“We are saddened and appalled by the termination of TPS for Venezuelans—though, unfortunately, not surprised.” said, Jose Palma, Coordinator, of the National TPS Alliance. The National TPS Alliance stands united in the fight for the dignity and rights of all TPS holders and the immigrant community as a whole. An attack on one is an attack on all. We will continue advocating for the designation of TPS for our fellow Venezuelans, as well as for our members from Honduras, Nicaragua, Nepal, and other countries whose TPS protections are also at risk”
We have faced the threat of TPS termination before and never expected to be in this position again,” said Doris Landaverde, Coordinator of the National TPS Alliance. “We stand in solidarity with our Venezuelan brothers and sisters and will continue fighting for the dignity and rights of all TPS holders. We will explore every possible avenue to protect as many members of our community as we can. With so much happening in immigration policy, we urge our fellow TPS holders from El Salvador, Sudan, and Ukraine to renew their protections as soon as possible.
