The National TPS Alliance Announces Mobilizations to Nevada and Pennsylvania to Amplify TPS Voices and Encourage Allies to Get Out and Vote

Las Vegas, Nevada & York, Pennsylvania, On October 19th and 20th, over 100 members of the National TPS Alliance, their U.S. citizen children, and allies will mobilize in two key states to encourage undecided voters to get out and vote in the upcoming election. The stakes in the upcoming 2024 election are incredibly high. The outcome will directly impact whether individuals currently protected under Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) will retain their protections. Additionally, the election will influence whether individuals from countries in need of TPS or DED designations will be granted these vital safeguards.

The National TPS Alliance is partnering with the TPS Funding Collaborative, which includes organizations such as Alianza Americas, CASA, Community United for Status and Protection (CUSP), and SEIU. In addition, we are partnering with our sister organizations, Mi Familia Vota in Nevada and CASA in Pennsylvania. Together, these organizations and TPS recipients are actively mobilizing volunteers across key states, including Arizona, Georgia, Florida, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Texas, and Wisconsin.

In response, members of the National TPS Alliance have issued the following statements

“Solidarity is the heartbeat of our movement, going door to door for Central Americans and the future of Temporary Protected Status (TPS)”. José Palma, National TPS Alliance Coordinator “As we encourage communities to vote, we stand united in ensuring TPS recipients are not forgotten. Every conversation is vital in our fight for justice and a pathway to permanent residency, empowering TPS holders to contribute to the nation they call home.”

“Elections and the uncertainty of remaining in legal limbo always bring unwanted anxiety to our families. While we have never had the privilege to vote, we fully understand its significance. “said Doris Landaverde, National TPS Alliance Executive Committee Member in Boston, MA “Elections are crucial in determining the future of individuals protected by programs like TPS and DED. We are proud to partner with our allies across the country to encourage voters in key states to recognize the importance of their vote and the impact it will have on our communities.”

“The National TPS Alliance (NTPSA) is no stranger to these efforts, having organized nationwide mobilizations during key elections in 2018 and 2020”. said Mardoel Hernadez, National TPS Alliance Executive Committee Member Silver Spring, MD “With TPS holders across the country, we believe in the power of collective action. This is why we have mobilized in states like Nevada and Pennsylvania, we want to amplify our stories—along with those of our U.S. citizen children—about the importance of voting and standing against hate.”
