BREAKING: DHS Announces 18 Month TPS Re-Designation for Syria
(New Jersey) The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has announced both an 18 month extension of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Syrians who have already been in the United States and a TPS re-designation, allowing more Syrians residing in the United States as of July 28, 2022 to be eligible for protections.
In response to the latest TPS re-designation, Jessika Girón of the National TPS Alliance made the following remarks:
“Due to the ongoing political turmoil in Syria, providing protections for Syrian migrants and refugees was an indisputable decision. The White House has the authority to do what is correct for migrants and refugees who have suffered by unprecedented crises across the world. President Biden must now move towards conferring the same protections to Central Americans. The White House has a responsibility to all migrants fleeing from political conflict, and we will continue to call for President Biden to utilize the full power of his executive authority to benefit as many immigrants as possible.
