TPS FAMILIES AND LEGAL TEAM GATHER OUTSIDE FEDERAL COURT TO CONTINUE THE FIGHT AGAINST MASSIVE DEPORTATIONS
Families have only months to begin repatriation
PRESS CONFERENCE
SEE APPEAL HERE
Pasadena, CA – On Monday, November 30, plaintiffs in the Ramos v. Nielsen case, their lawyers, and members of the National TPS Alliance hosted a press conference in front of the Federal Court Building in Pasadena as they filed an appeal of the U.S. 9th Circuit Court of Appeal’s September decision, which allowed Trump to move forward terminating TPS status for beneficiaries from six countries.
The decision on September 14 of this year allows the Trump administration to move forward with its effort to tear apart more than 400,000 immigrant families, impacting over 250,000 US citizen children. Most TPS beneficiaries have until April, 2021 to begin repatriation, with the exception of Salvadorans who have until November 2021.
Members of the National TPS Alliance made the following statements:
“For the last 3 years, we have managed to keep our families together and remain in this country even in the midst of constant attacks from the current administration. This has been a part of our strategy to provide the breathing room necessary to continue our fight towards the permanent residency we have so rightfully deserve after almost two decades as hardworking, key contributors to our adoptive country of the United States.” –Evelyn Hernandez, TPS Holder and Spokesperson for the National TPS Alliance
“During these unprecedented times, this program has protected hundreds of thousands of families and has allowed for them to provide the necessary support to their loved ones back home. TPS must be reinstated and expanded to those who are not yet protected and have been impacted by the conditions we fled from in our native countries.” –Lorena Zepeda, TPS Holder, family of Plaintiffs in Ramos V. Nielsen case
“This lawsuit was against an administration which spent four years trying to separate my family and the families of 275,000 other US citizen children. The incoming administration is expected to treat us differently but before we go ahead and drop this case, we want a commitment from President Elect Joe Biden. He must reinstate TPS on Day 1 in office and support our fight towards a permanent residency.”- Benjamin Zepeda, Child of TPS Holders and Plaintiff in Ramos V. Nielsen case
