TPS HOLDERS OUTSIDE SCHUMER RESIDENCE: ‘IF YOU BECOME MAJORITY LEADER, WE WILL HAVE PLAYED A ROLL IN THAT SO WE EXPECT SOMETHING IN RETURN’

NATIONWIDE- On Sunday November 8, the National TPS Alliance, Haitian Women for Haitian Refugees, Adhikaar, and African Communities together held a Press Conference in Brooklyn, NY– as part of yet another stop in the 8 week long, ‘On the Road to Justice’ nationwide bus tour.
The event brought the TPS community together to send a message of strength and unity after the election of Joe Biden as the 46th President of the United States.
“We may have kicked Trump out of office, but that does not mean everything is going to just magically improve. We have to work for it. Now is the time to organize and to keep on bringing our community together. This is how we can achieve a Permanent Residency for Our Families.” –Kevin Palma, Son of Salvadoran TPS Holders in Massachusetts
After the press conference, TPS holders and allies visited Senator Chuck Schumer’s Brooklyn residence. Brooklyn Resident and TPS Holder from Haiti, Melissa Cetoute, made the following statement outside of the residential building:
“Our efforts to motivate our communities to vote on November 3rd were meant to create a different playing field in our fight towards a permanent residency. We may have helped flip the White House, but we understand that it will be difficult to achieve our goal if we do not shift our efforts towards the Senate. So Senator Schumer, we want to let you know that we will be in Georgia. We will be organizing TPS holders to continue building collective power. If our efforts are successful, you will be Senate Majority Leader and we want you to understand that we will be a part of the reason you obtain that position. So we expect something in return. We are no longer asking for another mere extension of our status. If you are Majority Leader, We expect a Permanent Residency for all TPS Holders within the first 100 days of the new administration.” (VIDEO OF MELISSA)
